Chumuckla Community Church is the Spirit of Chumuckla. We welcome everyone. We pray, laugh, and eat a lot together. We are a warm, easy-going church, that treats you like family and friends, cares for children, youth, families, and our elderly with love and compassion of Christ. We care for and support everyone in Chumuckla, with great programs. Our Costa Rica Dental Missions Team head out early this Sunday morning to make a difference in the name of Jesus. They will be representing our church through this dental outreach. Please remember Pastor Clive, Dr. Dan & Melinda Henry and the many Dentists, hygenists and volunteers as they pre-pare to give of their full potential in this ministry outreach.
This week at both the 9am and 11am services I will be preaching on, “Reaching Our Full Potential”. Let’s dive into this study and investigate over-coming the roadblock we encounter while trying to reach our full potential. Our Lord, created us with special purpose. What’s your talent? He had some-thing very special in mind for you when He created you!
Starting this Sunday we have added an extra classroom for children’s 10am Sunday School. If you have a child who is in 2nd or 3rd grade, they will have a new location for their room and be taught by Holley Verret or Julie White. Thank you to the volunteers and teachers who worked to prepare this transi-tion and to make this new class a success.
For the next few weeks, our middle and high school youth will be joining us in the sanctuary for the 11am service.
The Thanksgiving season is upon us. We are making preparations to furnish ten (10) families with gift certificates ($50.00 each), a turkey (compliments of Grocery Outlet) and a fruit basket (we could use more funds for fruit). Thank you to the Wednesday morning Bible Study group and a few others for making this possible. Those who have been blessed have made it possible for us to continue blessing others through Helping Hands.
As we enter into a very special weekend, let’s take the time to pray for and re-member the Veterans who have served us so well. What an amazing country God has given us.

Two churches become one six years after hurricane

Two historic Chumuckla churches that became intertwined in the wake of Hurricane Ivan in 2004 will become one on Sunday.

The members of the former Chumuckla United Methodist Church and Elizabeth Chapel will meet for the first time as the unified Chumuckla Community Church at an 11 a.m. service at the Elizabeth Chapel property, the new church's south campus.
The United Methodist churches, about four miles apart on Chumuckla Highway, have long shared many activities, but Ivan brought them closer.
While the heavily damaged Elizabeth Chapel was rebuilt after Ivan, its parishioners used the Chumuckla church for services.
"Who's to say what God had planned for us, but certainly, that opened the door in a lot of people's hearts and minds that we are one body, we serve one Lord, we are born of one birth through Christ," said Vicki Miller, a lifelong Chumuckla resident who has been a member at both churches. "It seemed to make all the sense in the world."
Chumuckla United was founded in 1906. After a fire at that church, some members of that congregation and other nearby churches formed Elizabeth Chapel to the south in 1936. A new Chumuckla church was completed in 1947.
The idea of unifying gathered support this spring when the pastor at Elizabeth Chapel was called to lead two congregations in Pensacola.
Elizabeth Chapel attendance had dipped in recent years, while Chumuckla's has been growing. Chumuckla had 110 people and 7 acres of property. Elizabeth Chapel had 103 members and 40 acres.
"We worshipped together at times, anyway," said Miller, wife of U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller and a member of the new church. "We did Vacation Bible School together. We did some of the same missions in the community. I think the presence of the Holy Spirit in both churches moved upon our people, and the hearts of the people were opened up to it."
Both campuses will remain active. Sunday morning services and Sunday school will be at the south campus. Plans are to start a Sunday evening prayer and praise service at the north campus in the fall. The north campus will become an education center, including a day care.
The Rev. Clive Knights, the pastor of seven years at the former Chumuckla church, will be senior pastor at the new church. He promises that the new institution will further the mission of service of the previous two.
"We're focusing even more on the whole aspect of community care," he said. "We're very community-care minded, with children and crisis care. We also provide an annual dental fair to provide free dental care to the community. We're very oriented to care for the community. It's so beautiful that even the title of our church is so community focused."
The combined church will be stronger than the two smaller ones were separately, said Gina Bryan, associate pastor at Chumuckla Community Church. Bryan joined the effort in June.
"Each separately was doing some amazing ministry," she said. "Both churches, their heart is to minister to the community. Now, they will be officially together, and I can see it just exploding into a bigger outreach ministry."

Megan Roberts is graduating from Jay High School with straight "A's" and with honors in the National Honor Society and National Art Honors Society. Megan has been involved in many activities, one being Varsity Cheerleader. She served as captain her senior year. She plans to become a dental hygienist.

Chris Carrigan is graduating in the top 10 of his class and with honors in the National Honor Society and National Art Honors Society. Chris has been very active in sports, especially football. He will be leaving this summer to begin his career with the United States Air Force.

Chris and Megan are planning to be married next year.

Their church family presented them with new Bibles, "The Message."

2010 HEALING SPRINGS DENTAL MISSION

The 2010 Healing Springs Dental Fair was a resounding success. There
were 105 patients treated by 15 volunteer dentists and 6 dental
hygienists. The hospitality team fed everyone who wanted to eat all day
during the dental fair. The Chumuckla United Methodist Church
volunteer teams made the event work seamlessly all day with patients
for the dentists and guest feel welcomed.
The event could not have happened without everyone working together for
the benefit of our community. The outreach spirit demonstrated by the
members of the CUMC is to be commended. Everyone who helped brought
blessings to the people of north Santa Rosa County.

Congressional Record for Dr. Dan Henry

Dr. Dan Henry was given a Congressional Record by the Office of Representative Jeff Miller on Sunday March 14, 2010 to recognize his work in the field of mission dentistry.

Dan Henry graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School at Baltimore in 1975. He served two years in the Air Force at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ and returned to his native Northwest Florida home in 1977. He established his dental practice in Pensacola and has served the community as a dentist and in organized dentistry. He served as president of the local and Northwest Florida dental associations and ultimately as the president of the Florida Dental Association in 2007-2008.

He started conducting overseas dental mission trips in 1986 through the United Methodist Church. In 2010 he will lead his 24th mission overseas. Seeing the need to provide more than just surgical extractions, he constructed a mobile dental office consisting of 6 stations for dentists and hygienists which enables full restorative dentistry and can be transported to schools, churches and overseas locations. He sponsored the Give Kids a Smile campaign in NW Florida which provides free dental care for underprivileged children. Since 2009, he has led the Healing Springs Dental Mission at Chumuckla UMC which serves children and adults in North Santa Rosa County who can not afford regular dental care.

Dr. Dan Henry’s mission efforts are not accomplished by one man. He has brought the dental community in Northwest Florida as well as the church body together to work as a family to serve others both here and overseas.

HELPING HANDS FUND

Many people need assistance with expenses such as medications, electric bills and groceries. Through your generosity we have been able to help several in our church family and community. Our Helping Hands Fund needs to be replenished. If you can make a donation, please indicate on your check the amount you want to go to this worthy cause. This will be the local Mission Project for January.

Just write your question in a piece of paper and put it into the collection plate when it goes around. In fact, I will try to remember to provide a format for the questions and will have it in the foyer. Hopefully, that will jog your memory to ask the question. Either way - please think about things that you might have questions about.

NEW LAY SPEAKER COMMISSIONED TO PREACH AT CHUMUCKLA METHODIST CHURCH

In a memorable service on Sunday, August 3rd, 2008, Clint White was commissioned as a Lay Speaker at
Chumuckla United Methodist Church. The ceremony took place during the Family Service, when Clint was commissioned by the Pastor, the Reverend Clive Knights and Donna Lee, Lay Speaker.

Clint completed his United Methodist Lay Speaker training the previous week, and will be preaching tregularly each month at Church Services.

Clint White will be a very valuable member of the three-member preaching team of this fast growing church. He is very faithful and dedicated and is a most gifted teacher. The Church family is so very proud of Clint. He is supported by his lovely wife Julie, and knows that the Lord has great things in store for his Preaching Ministry in Chumuckla.

Clint White is a graduate of the University of Florida and part owner and President of
Gulf Coast Turf, Inc, a supplier of centipede sod and seed.

CLOUD 9 DOESN'T LAST

It's hard to stay excited about a constant. Inherit a million dollars and you are ecstatic for a few weeks. Eventually, you come down to earth. No one who has been a millonaire for years goes around in a state of euphoria. The most beautiful girl in town agrees to marry you, and you're on cloud nine. But a year or ten years into the marriage, you're back to normal. Let a young pastor get called to the biggest church in the state and he is overwhelmed with the expectations placed on him. Life has returned to normal. No one can live on a mountain of excitement. Fortunately, the Lord has not asked euphoria or even excitement from us, just faithfulness and steadfastness. Those who measure a worship service by its emotional highs are missing the mark. As the old preacher used to say, "It's not how high you jump that impresses God but how straight you walk after you hit the ground."

Amazing Ashleigh New Media Assistant at Chumuckla Methodist Church

Ashleigh Kanning has been appointed as Media Assistant at Chumuckla United Methodist Church.
Though she is only 13 years old she has completed the training necessary to create and present the Power Pointe needed for orchestrating big screen projections at church services. She is also trained to operate the Sound system and Video equipment used to broadcast services.She also maintains the church blog site by adding new post and updating existing items. She has proven herself with faithful service and hard work throughout her training. She has a fantastic "Can-Do Attitude" and always steps up when asked. AS THE BIBLE SAYS, "THE LEAST SHALL BE THE GREATEST AMONG YOU."YOUR PINKIE SHOULD REMIND YOU TO PRAY FOR YOURSELF. YAH'S Young At Heart

YAHS RIDE THE HOG

On May 15, 2008, the Young At Heart Seniors of Chumuckla United Methodist Church traveled to Cordele, Georgia, the watermelon capital of the world, for a train trip thru parts of beautiful Georgia. They viewed Peach orchards and pecan groves and scenic country farms.
Upon arrival in Americus, the group was served a sumptuous luncheon in the historic Windsor Hotel. Afterwards they toured the Habitat for Humanity Global Village.
When they arrived in Plains, they visited the boyhood home of President Jimmy Carter. They even sampled peanut butter ice cream and, some fried peanuts. Some of the group visited the Presidential museum and others visited the antique mall.
The Georgia Excursion Train, nicknamed the Hog, was made up of air-conditioned, 1949 vintage cars for a visit to romantic yesteryear and a view to today’s south. The train ride lasted about six hours and from all the comments, was a very pleasant, and relaxing, excursion.

PRAY AND SACRIFICE

Our church family and friends have been under fire in recent months. We feel a need to pray and sacrifice on their behalf. We suggest that we each choose a single day per week, to especially pray for healing, health, and peace. On the day of our choosing, we will decline to eat lunch, being sure to eat breakfast and dinner on that day. Please only do this if medically sensible. During our lunchtime fast we will szpend that time in prayer. This will b e a private matter and done in secret. Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity of prayer and fasting.

CHURCH COLORS

The Church's Colors
During the Church's year, we use different colors for the altar and cross. What do they mean?

White - for joyful festivals, especially Christmas and Easter seasons.
Red - the color of fire and blood, used for the Pentecost season and for Martyrs.
Purple - reflects times of penitence and preparation, so is used during Lent and Advent.
Green - the ordinary color of nature - for normal Sundays.

At Chumuckla only, we may add Mossy Oak during the hunting season!

KIDZ KLUB VISITS SANTA ROSA NURING HOME

On saturday December the Chumuckla UMC Kidz Klub paid avisit to the Residents of Santa Rosa Nursing Home spreading cheer and Christmas wishes to all. A good time was had by all, the kids and patients, both. We plan more of these type trips soon.
